Lasting Solutions to a Bright Smile

When you see your smile reflected in the mirror, do you like what you see? If you have teeth that are crooked, crowded, or otherwise misaligned, it can take a severe toll on your self-image and hurt your self-esteem. In addition, these dental malocclusions can negatively impact your oral health. Fortunately, help is available. Invisalign is a proven treatment that can provide you with a lasting solution to your complaints about the alignment of your teeth. If you have any questions about Invisalign, get in touch with the office of Douglas E. McDaniel, DDS.

How Invisalign Works

In past decades, correcting the position of your teeth meant wearing traditional metal braces—complete with sharp wires, breakable rubber bands, and an extremely conspicuous effect on the appearance of your smile. Invisalign offers an alternative treatment that uses successive sets of clear plastic aligners to slowly shift your teeth into a different position. Each set of aligners is customized for your bite using a computer scan. Every two to three weeks, you’ll trade your current set of aligners for a new one. Over time, you’ll see your smile improve, until the ideal alignment for your teeth has been achieved.

Undergoing Invisalign Treatment

Once they’ve gotten used to them, most patients find that the aligners are not uncomfortable to wear. The aligners are difficult for other people to see, so you can wear them without embarrassment. You can take the aligners out of your mouth in order to eat, drink, or brush and floss. To be effective, however, the aligners should be worn for 20-22 hours each day.

You might be a good candidate for Invisalign if you:

  • Have an orthodontic issue such as crooked, crowded, or unevenly spaced teeth.
  • Have the patience and discipline to wear the aligners.
  • Are in your late teens or older.
  • Do not have extreme overbite, overjet, or other jaw issues.

Every patient’s specific dental concerns are different, so Invisalign isn’t the right answer for everyone. If you’re interested in finding out whether you’re a good candidate for the treatment, talk to your dentist.
